The Kurdish villagers of Kandaryarimja, a tiny village outside Erbil, Iraq, pose proudly at the edge of the remains of their village. A small number have recently returned, to rebuild the village after its destruction under Saddam Hussein's regime. There is no water (the pump is missing), and nothing but worn rubble remains of the old houses.
