The Northern California Innocence Project at Santa Clara University both advocates for reform of the criminal justice system and works to free people from prison. California may think itself enlightened, but there are terrible miscarriages of justice here. In many areas, politicians and police refuse to face the flaws in the justice system, and the average time for an exoneration is 11 years, meaning it takes 11 years to free an innocent man.
